Promoting innovation and inclusion in growth potential enterprises: evidence from Nepal (IDRC)

Nepal Development Research Institute (NDRI), in collaboration with International Development Research Institute (IDRC) Canada, is conducting a 3-year research project titled “Promoting innovation and inclusion in growth potential enterprises: evidence from Nepal” from March 2023 to February 2026. This project examines two innovation support programs (ISPs) to understand their impact on MSME development and promoting inclusive innovation. The research will focus on the Micro Enterprise Development Programme for Poverty Alleviation (MEDPA), functioning under the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies (MoICS) and the Youth and Small Self-Employment Fund (YSEF), managed by the YSEF Secretariat. It will provide evidence to integrate ISP supported promising entrepreneurs for promoting their business growth and sustainability. Moreover, the research will assess the impact of these programs and identify what services are most impactful and who is benefitting. The results of the study will contribute to both scholarly and public policy debates. Specifically, the project will devise evidence-informed recommendations on how the growth potential enterprises could be improved from an equity, diversity and inclusion perspective. Eventually, this study will identify potential entry points to promote an inclusive business innovation ecosystem in Nepal.
